Hello everyone this is my first post on my poker news blog. I’ll be recapping the first week in the WSOP.

Event #1 Casino Employees No Limit Hold’em 866 entries $500 buy in. Andrew Cohen wins the event taking home $83,833.

Event #2 40th Annual No Limit Hold’em there was a whopping 201 entries for this $40,000 buy in. Vitaly Lunkin takes home $1,891,012 for first in this back and forth heads up match with Isaac Haxton who took home $1,168,566. When heads up play began, Haxton had a bit more than a 2-to-1 chip advantage over his Russian counterpart. It only took Lunkin seven hands to wrest the advantage away from Haxton. About an hour later, Haxton won nine straight hands and retook the lead. A sequence of huge, dramatic hands followed. First Lunkin doubled up to take the lead. Then Haxton hit a five-outer on the river to top Lunkin’s pocket aces and retake the advantage. Then Lunkin doubled again. Finally, a short-stacked Haxton ran into Lunkin’s aces, and this time couldn’t catch the needed cards to crack them.

Event #3 Omaha Hi Low Split 8 or Better 918 entries $1500 buy in for a Omaha Hi Low Split event is a crazy turnout and they said with the economy down there wouldn’t be a great turnout at the WSOP. Incredibly Thang Luu repeated in this event, he won this event last year and also came in 2nd the year before that. Unreal performance by Luu. He takes home $263,190 for his effort. Runner up Ed Smith takes home $162,109.
